San José State gymnast Lauren Macpherson has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Freshman Gymnast of the Week for her performances at Stanford last Saturday.
In her first competition as a collegiate gymnast, Macpherson, from Gilbert, Ariz., competed in the all-around at Stanford. Despite starting the meet with a 9.275 on bars, she rebounded on vault with a 9.750, the second-best Spartan vault score. Macpherson then ended the meet strongly as she led SJSU on the balance beam with a 9.775. This is the first career MPSF honor for Macpherson.
San José State travels to Air Force for a meet this Friday at 6 p.m. MT/5 p.m. PT.
