#4-Arizona State Tops #17-Spartans, 11-4

Tempe, Ariz.----- Though San Jose State University scored first, it was #4-Arizona State following through with five unanswered goals for an 11-4 women's water polo victory in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match.
 
            Junior Olga Descalzi Portell of the #17-ranked Spartans (1-5, 0-1 MPSF) opened the match's scoring with a power play goal, the only one in the contest by either team, at 5:22 of the first quarter. Descalzi Portell's goal was her 100th as a Spartan. She is the 20th player in school history to reach the 100 career goal plateau.
 
            Arizona State's Bente Rogge put the Sun Devils (8-4, 2-1 MPSF) ahead for good with goals consecutive possessions to ignite the five-goal outburst into the early stages of the second quarter.
 
            Riley Agerbeek led San Jose State in scoring with a pair of second quarter scores. Sierra Painter accounted for the Spartans' only second-half goal.
 
            Rogge, Borbala Kekesi, Amira Van Buren and Ali Cameron shared match-high scoring honors with Agerbeek at two goals each.
 
            San Jose State outshot Arizona State, 27-21, but only had four goals to show for it.
 
            Goalkeeper Hannah Henry stopped seven Sun Devil shots on goal. Arizona State's Chelsea Karimazondo was credited with 10 saves.
 
            The two teams wrap up their weekend MPSF series with a March 21 match at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center on the Arizona State campus starting at 1:00 p.m. (PDT)/1:00 p.m. (MST).
