Spartans Finish Sixth At Duck Invitational; Four Place In Top-20

Eugene, Ore.----- San Jose State University's busy week of men's golf is half done with a sixth-place finish at the Oregon Duck Invitational.

The Spartans finished with an 886 54-hole total on the par 71, 7,039-yard Eugene Country Club course. San Jose State began the final in sixth and its 298 team score for the day left the Spartans six shots away from fifth-place Santa Clara at 880.

Oregon State overtook host Oregon with an 860 total. The Beavers were four shots better than the Ducks at 864. Boise State had the top final-round team score of one-over par 285 to finish in third place at 868. Washington was fourth at 876 in the 15-team field.

"It's a nice step forward on several levels. I think we gained a lot of traction. We accomplished a lot in this tournament that didn't entirely show on the scoreboard, but there was some great significance to this tournament," said San Jose State University men's golf coach John Kennaday.

Four Spartans, three of them counting to the team total and Vijay Srinivasan playing as an individual entry, finished in the top-20 in the 83-player field. Nate Jetter and Bryce Wortman each tied for 14th place at 219. Sean Yu and Vijay Srinivasan also placed in the top-20 tying for 18th place at 221. For Jetter and Srinivasan, the Duck Invitational marked their first career top-20 finish at a major college tournament.

Second-round co-leader Hugh Townsend of Boise State earned medalist honors with a 207 total after a final-round one-under par 70. Washington's Noah Woolsey parlayed a 69, one of only two sub-70 scores in the final round to move up to second place at 209. Second-round co-leader Spencer Tibbits of Oregon State and Tom Gueant of Oregon tied for third at three-under par 210. No other player in the 83-player field finished at level par or under par.

The Spartans are heading back to Northern California for The Goodwin tournament hosted by Stanford at the Stanford Golf Course, March 25-27. San Jose State is one of 28 teams in the field. The Spartans have a morning set of tee times on March 25 and the late afternoon tee times on March 26.
