Spartans Sixth Heading Into Duck Invitational Final Round

Eugene, Ore.----- San Jose State University's strong comeback in the afternoon round vaulted the Spartans into sixth place heading into the final 18 holes of the Oregon Duck Invitational men's golf tournament at the Eugene Country Club.
 
            San Jose State's second-round team total of two-over par 286 was the second best on the par 71, 7,039-yard course and was a 16-stroke improvement over the morning round score 302 score. The Spartans' 588 total is just one behind Santa Clara's 587 and five shots back of third place Boise State's 583.
 
            Host Oregon is the team leader at four-over par 572. Oregon State is a close second at 574 in the 15-team field.
 
            Bryce Wortman, Nate Jetter, Sean Yu, and Carl Corpus came through in the afternoon round with Yu leading the way with a one-under 70 on three birdies and two bogeys. Wortman, the 2020 Oregon State Amateur champion, Jetter and Corpus each posted a one-over 72 counting to the Spartans' total. Jetter, Wortman, Yu and Vijay Srinivasan playing as a non-counting individual entry are in an eight-way tie for 13th place at 146.
 
            Corpus is tied for 44th at 151. Caleb Shetler, whose 78 counted in the morning round, improved with a 77 and is tied for 56th at 155.
 
            Srinivasan turned in the best San Jose State score of the second round and his single best 18 holes at the major college level with a two-under par 69. It was his first time posting a sub-70 score and only his second round in college career under par for any 18 holes. Srinivasan's round consisted of a bogey on his third hole, #2, and birdies on #8 to draw to even par, #13 and on his finishing hole #17.
 
            Boise State's Hugo Townsend, whose 66 was the best score of the second round, is the individual leader in the 83-player field at 137. First-round co-leader Spencer Tibbits of Oregon State matched Srinivasan's afternoon 69 and is tied with Townsend at five-under par 137. Only six players are under par heading into the March 23 final round.
