Spartans Seek To Rebound On Final Day At The Goodwin

Stanford, Calif.----- There were no holes-in-one nor long birdie rallies for San Jose State University in the second round of The Goodwin at the Stanford University Golf Course. Consequently, the Spartans are in 22nd place out of 28 teams heading into the third and final round of the 54-hole tournament featuring three top-20 ranked teams.

San Jose State posted a second-round team score of 298, eight strokes more than its opening-round 290 for its 588 total. As a team, the Spartans managed only five birdies among their four counting scores on the par 70, 6,727-yard Stanford course.

For the second consecutive round, Bryce Wortman, who had a hole-in-one on the par 3, 14th hole in the opening round, was the top Spartan with his second consecutive one-over par 71. The lefty from Vancouver, Wash., had a birdie on each nine to offset three bogeys on the back nine. San Jose State also counted Nate Jetter's 74, Carl Corpus' 75 and the 78 by Sean Yu. Corpus heads into the final round tied for second in the field of 146 golfers in pars made with 27 for 36 holes.

Arizona State had the best team score of the second round with a seven-under par 273 to move into first place with a 551 total. The Sun Devils were the only team under par for the middle 18 holes. First-round team leader Stanford is second at 556.
