Malate Moves Up the Leaderboard, SJSU 9th at PING/ASU Invitational

Phoenix, Ariz.—Antonia Malate moved into sixth place Saturday at the PING/ASU Invitational as the San José State women's golf team is now ninth in the team standings after two rounds of the tournament.
 
One of 12 players in the field to shoot under-par in the second round, Malate recorded a one-under 71 and is two-under 142 for the tournament. She is in a group of six players at two under, just three shots off the lead held by Kelly Sim of Northwestern at five-under par.
 
Malate was one under for her first nine holes, starting the day with five consecutive pars before going bogey-birdie-birdie-par to end the front nine. She then made four more pars before bogey-birdie and ended with three pars to finish at 71.
 
Jordyn Parr also moved up the individual leaderboard and is now tied for 35th at four-over 148. She shot an even-par 72 in the second round, making 16 pars with a bogey on #7 and a birdie on #11.
 
Louisa Carlbom shot a six-over 78 for her second round and is now tied for 39th at five-over 149. Carlbom started her round with a par and birdie, but was not able to record another birdie in her round to go with her 10 pars made.
 
Kajsa Arwefjäll is tied for 53rd at seven-over 151 after recording a six-over 78 in the second round. She made one birdie on her final hole of the day.
 
Jadan Gonzalez is tied for 75th at 12-over 156. She shot the third-lowest round of the day for the Spartans with her 75. She made two birdies and 11 pars on her round
 
The Spartans shot an eight-over 296 and are now in ninth place at +11, and trail eight-place Stanford by three shots. Arizona State leads the tournament at even-par 576. The top-12 teams are within 14 shots of each other.
 
Final round action for San José State begins at 7:30 a.m. as they play with Oregon and Stanford.
