Spartans Wrap Up Road Trip At San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Jose State women's soccer's 11-day road trip came to an end on Sunday as the Spartans wrapped up their fourth road contest of the last two weekends. The Spartans saw an improved offensive attack as they put up 10 shots in a 3-0 losing effort to San Diego State.

Sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Aguirre continued her solid work in the net with eight saves, tying her season-high from the first time the Spartans and Aztecs squared off in San Jose. The Corona, Calif., native improved her Mountain West-leading saves per game average to 6.3.

Despite Aguirre's strong work, the Aztec attack often proved to be just too much for the Spartan Defense. They netted two goals in a span of five minutes in the first period and added an insurance goal on well-placed free kick in the 51st.

The Spartans (0-6-1) threatened on several instances of their own with their best opportunity coming in the 22nd minute as Karlee Pottorff fired off a rocket from well outside the box, but her shot hit the crossbar. SJSU nearly scored again inside the 87th minute as they rattled off three shots, including an on-goal attempt by Izzy Shallou-Enes, but came away empty handed.

With the road trip finally in their rear view mirror, the Spartans get set to return to the South Bay where they will host Boise State and Nevada next weekend for their final two home matches of the season.
