FULLERTON, Calif. – San Jose State softball took one of two in Friday's doubleheader against LMU. The Spartans dropped game one 3-0 before enacting revenge with a 3-1 win in game two in the first day of competition at the 2021 Judi Garman Classic on the campus of Cal State Fullerton.
SJSU improves to 5-3 on the young season and will make a quick turnaround for another doubleheader tomorrow, this time against host-Cal State Fullerton.
QUICK HITTERS
Game One – LMU 3, SJSU 0
- Hits were tough to come by as Janessa Lozano record the only knock for the Spartans with a single.
- Caroline Bowman (0-3) pitched a complete game with three strikeouts.
- LMU tallied nine hits including two home runs, as they improved to 7-5.
- Marina Vitalich (4-2) struck-out 12 in her complete game shutout for the Lions.
Game Two – SJSU 3, LMU 1
- Jenessa Ullegue improved to 3-1 on the year as she worked a complete game.
- The Spartans shook off the jitters and responded with seven hits, including two home runs in the victory.
- Alyssa Graham (2-3) and Ashley Rico (2-3) led the way with multi-hit games.
- Janessa Lozano put SJSU on the scoreboard first in the second inning with her second home run of the season.
- Tied at 1-1 in the fourth, Graham put the Spartans back on top as she scored on a wild pitch.
- Makayla Englestad added an insurance run in the fifth as she belted her first homer of the season.
- The Spartans played error-free in both games.
