LOS ANGELES - San Jose State softball was unable to keep up with one of the nation's premier teams on Sunday as they fell in five innings to defending national champion UCLA by a final of 14-0.
The Spartans (3-8) will have an opportunity to regroup this upcoming week as they get set to host a pair of nonconference games against Pacific (3/10) and Santa Clara (3/12), They will then make the short drive over to Santa Clara on March 13, for a final nonconference bout before beginning Mountain West play.

- Facing one of the top pitching units in the nation, the Spartans were held to just one hit, a single up the middle by Arianna Miranda in the second inning.

- Jenessa Ullegue (3-3) got the start and worked 3.2 innings.
- UCLA's Rachel Garcia, the 2019 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, returned from injury to work the final three scoreless innings, tallying eight strikeouts to pick up her first win of the season.
