This Week in San José State Athletics returns this week to catch you up on last week's action and see what's ahead for the Spartans!

Please note - Due to Santa Clara County guidelines, spectators are not permitted at any San José State Athletics events.

Men's Basketball (5-15, 3-13 MW)

This Week:
The Spartans earned the No. 9 seed at the 2020-21 Air Force Reserve Mountain West Basketball Championships and will take on eight-seed Wyoming in the opening game of the tournament on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. PT. 
Last Week: The Spartans' final three regular season games were canceled due to COVID issues within the program.

Spartan Fact: Senior guard Richard Washington was named an All-Mountain West Honorable Mention selection by the conference's media poll on Monday. The Newport News, Va., native led the Mountain West in scoring in the regular season with 19.6 points per game and had the top two scoring performances of any player in the league with 38 points vs. Fresno Pacific and 35 points against Colorado State.

Volleyball (3-5, 3-5)

This Week:
The Spartans continue their homestand this weekend with matches against Colorado State on Friday and Saturday at 3 p.m.

Last Week: The team won a pair of home matches against Nevada, 3-1 and 3-0. The team hit over .300 for the week.
 
Spartan Fact:
Latahevai Lousi joined an elite Spartan volleyball club last Friday night when she recorded 20 kills and 20 digs in the win. She became just the 22nd player in school history to record a 20/20 double-double. The last was recorded by Hanah Blume during the 2013 season.

Spartan Fact #2: The Spartans recorded 12 service aces in Saturday's win. Five players recorded at least one ace in the match, led by Mia Schafer with five.

Spartan Fact #3: Ryann Thomison was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week.

Men's Soccer (1-1, 1-1 WAC)

This Week:
The Spartans return to action this week in the Lone Star State, meeting Houston Baptist on Saturday afternoon. 

Last Week: No action last week. 

Spartan Fact:
San Jose State leads the nation in assists per match (4.0) as the calendar turns to March.

Women's Tennis (5-0)

This Week:
The Spartans host Pacific on Friday beginning at noon.

Last Week: The Spartans won 6-1 at UC Davis.

Spartan Fact: The team plays the next six matches at the Spartan Tennis Complex.

Spartan Fact #2: In recent history, no Spartan women's tennis team has started the season 5-0. Two teams have won five consecutive matches during the season (2017 & 2018). The 2015 team won six straight matches during the season, while the 2013 team won seven straight. The 2012 team won 12 consecutive matches in the middle of the season.

Women's Soccer (0-1-0, 0-1-0)

This Week:
The Spartans have a pair of home matches on deck vs. San Diego State (Friday) and UNLV (Sunday). 

Last Week:
SJSU returned to the pitch for the first time since Nov. 5, 2019, in a 3-1 loss to Fresno State. 

Spartan Facts: Freshman forward Evan House scored her first collegiate goal in the loss to Fresno State while junior forward Sylvia Sloss made her first-ever appearance in the goal.

Women's Golf

This Week:
The Spartans are currently co-hosting the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational with the University of San Francisco. 

Last Week:
The Spartans tied for third at the Gunrock Invitational. Antonia Malate and Kajsa Arwefjall tied for 3rd place in the individual standings. 

Spartan Fact: The team shot an 8-under 856 for the tournament, the second-lowest 56-hole total in school history.

Women's Gymnastics
This Week: The Spartans compete twice this week. The team hosts their only meet of the season this Wednesday against Stanford at 3 p.m. San Jose State then travels to UCLA for a Saturday afternoon meet.

Last Week: The Spartans competed at the Air Force Academy and scored a 193.100.
 
Spartan Fact:
Tia Gin and Lauren Macpherson each won titles during the meet. Gin tied her career-best on floor with a 9.800 and added a 38.900 in the all-around to win both. Macpherson recorded the team's highest score of the night as she won the bars with a 9.850 and was second in the all-around at 38.325.

San Jose State University is one of 20 teams in the Lamkin San Diego Classic hosted by San Diego State.

Last Week: No action last week.

Spartan Fact: Only five weeks before San Jose State hosts the 74th Western Intercollegiate Presented by Topgolf at the Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz and televised live by GOLFChannel. Dates are April 12 through April 14.

This Week: The Spartans return to their home diamond for the first time this season as they host Pacific (Wednesday) and Santa Clara (Friday). They will then make the short drive over to Santa Clara for a game at their place on Saturday before getting ready for conference play to begin. 

Last Week: SJSU went 1-3 at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton and dropped a non-conference bout with defending national champion-UCLA. 

Spartan Fact:
Alyssa Graham continues to be a spark for the Spartan offense as she ranks second in the MW with .438 batting clip. She also is tied for third in on base percentage at .500.

This Week:

Last Week: The Spartans' start to the 2021 campaign was a successful one as the men's team placed first and the women took third at the Central California Invitational on Saturday. 

Spartan Fact:
Senior Chantel Ward set a school record in the outdoor women's shot put in Fresno, hitting a mark of 12.85m.

Men's Water Polo (2-6, 1-4 GCC)

This Week: The Spartans host a doubleheader Saturday, March 13, at the SRAC, starting with Santa Clara and then an exhibition with Cuesta College.

Last Week: The Spartans split four matches posting wins over unranked Santa Clara, 9-4, and #5-Pepperdine, 11-8, and lost matches to Pepperdine, 11-8 16-6.

Spartan Fact: San Jose State finished second in the Golden Coast Conference to Pepperdine. Long Beach State, Pacific, UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara opted out for the 2020 men's water polo season.

This Week: The #15-ranked Spartans face their toughest test of the season traveling to Stanford for a non-conference contest Saturday, March 13.

Spartan Fact: San Jose State's 17 goals in its 17-7 win over Santa Clara are a team-high since defeating Sonoma State, 21-7, on January 18, 2020.
