Jankans Hits Conference-Leading Mark In Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. - Freshman Kyle Jankans continued his hot start to his collegiate career by setting a personal-best and Mountain West-leading mark in the high jump this week at the Fullerton Spring Invitational.

Competing as an individual down in Fullerton, Jankans placed second and hit a mark of 2.11m in the men's high jump. The mark eclipses his previous best of 2.05m (Mar. 20, 2021 at Hornet Invitational).

"We are really proud of Kyle's performance as this was a big breakthrough for him," said director of track and field Kendra Reimer-Gonzales after the meet. "He has been having great practices and we knew a big jump was on the way. Coach Alexis Stevens has been working on Kyle's mental game to help prepare him for these big jumps."

Jankans now leads the Mountain West in the high jump and is ranked No. 41 nationally.

The Villa Park, Calif. product opened his collegiate career with a pair of first-place finishes in both the Central California and Hornet Invitationals, then placed third against a loaded field at the Stanford Invitational last week.

Jankans and the rest of the Spartans will resume the outdoor season at the Sacramento State Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 17.
