Volleyball Falls 3-1 at Utah State

Logan, Utah—The Spartans hit just .159 Thursday night as the San José State volleyball team lost at Utah State 3-1 (25-22, 24-26, 25-19, 25-19).
 
The Spartans had 54 kills on 151 attempts but recorded 30 hitting errors. The team was also outblocked 12-7 in the loss.
 
Latahevai Lousi led the team with 18 kills and added eight digs. Haylee Nelson recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 11 digs. Ryann Thomison hit .381 with 10 kills on 21 attempts and only two errors. She and Allyson Alden each had three blocks to lead the team.
 
Sarah Smevog led the team with 18 digs and three service aces. Mia Schafer added 40 assists, seven digs and a block assist.
 
Set 1 – Utah State won the set 25-22 as the Aggies hit .464. The Spartans had the lead for much of the set including 18-15, but scored just four of the next 14 points in the loss.
 
Set 2 – The Spartans tied the set at 23-23 after trailing for much of it. Schafer recorded her first ace of the match to give San José State the 26-24 win.
 
Set 3 – San José State jumped out to an early 10-4 lead, but the Aggies scored 10 of the next 12 points to lead 14-12. Utah State never gave back the lead to win the set 25-19.
 
Set 4 – The Spartans jumped out to an early 4-3 lead, but Utah State a 7-1 run to go out to a 10-5 lead and never looked back. The Aggies finished out the match by winning the fourth set 25-18.
 
San José State plays the final match of the spring 2021 season this Saturday at Wyoming at 1 p.m. MT/12 p.m. PT.
