Spartans Fourth After Two Rounds at MW Championships

Rancho Mirage, Calif.—Three San José State women's golfers are in the top-20 after the first two rounds of the 2021 Mountain West Championships at the Mission Hills Country Club. The Spartans are tied for fourth in team standings with Nevada.
 
Kajsa Arwefjäll led the Spartans at five-over 149 and is alone in 12th place after the first day. She made five birdies in the second round after making par on 17 of her 18 holes played in the first round. Arwefjäll started the second round (on hole #10) with consecutive birdies and was two under for her first six holes of the round before going bogey-par-quadruple bogey. She finished her round with birdies on three of her final nine holes including the final two holes of the day to shoot a 75.
 
Louisa Carlbom is just one shot behind Arwefjäll at six-over after shooting 74-76 for her two rounds and is tied for 13th. She made four birdies during her first round and drained two more in the second round. Carlbom finished her second round with three pars and a birdie for her 76.
 
Antonia Malate is tied for 18th at seven-over 151 after shooting a 75 in the second round. Her only birdie came on her second hole of the round, par-5 #11. She made 14 pars during the round. Malate made 13 pars and one birdie during the first round as she shot a 76.
 
Jordyn Parr is tied for 22nd after shooting a 76 in each round and is eight-over par. She made four birdies on the day including three in the second round.
 
Jadan Gonzalez is tied for 25th at nine-over 153. She made four birdies in the second round and was one under after eight holes played, but bogeys were not very nice to her as she made six over her final 10 holes. Gonzalez did made a birdie on #6 to finish at four-over 76.
 
The Spartans are tied with Nevada at +26 and lead the field in birdies made at 23. The team is nine shots behind New Mexico and Fresno State. San Diego State leads the field at +6.
 
San José State begins the final round of the championships Wednesday at 7:45 a.m., as the team plays with Nevada and UNLV.
