Rancho Mirage, Calif.—Spartans Antonia Malate and Kajsa Arwefjäll finished in the top-10 at the 2021 Mountain West Women's Golf Championships. San José State finished third at the Mission Hills Country Club on Wednesday.
Malate finished tied for seventh at five-over 221. She shot a two-under 70 Wednesday and was the only player in the field of 45 to shoot under par in the final round. She started her day with six consecutive pars before finishing the front nine at bogey-par-birdie. Malate made a birdie on #10, made four more pars before finishing birdie-par-par.
Arwefjäll shot her best round of the tournament with a one-over 73 and tied for ninth at six-over 222. She was even par through her first nine holes, making seven pars, a bogey and a birdie (#8). Arwefjäll made one birdie on #16, to go with six pars and two bogeys over her final nine holes.
Louisa Carlbom recorded her best finish of the season as she tied for 15th at 11-over 227. She shot a five-over 77 in the final round, making a birdie on #9 and 12 pars during the round.
Jordyn Parr shot her third 76 of the championship and tied for 22nd at 12-over 228. She too birdied #9 and made 12 pars.
Jadan Gonzalez tied for 30th at 16-over 232 after shooting a seven-over 79 in the final round. She made birdies on #4 and #10 during her round.
The Spartans had their best round of the tournament with a 296 and moved up to third place in the team standings at 898. New Mexico made a surge in the final round to win the championship at 883, as San Diego State was second at 887.
