Las Vegas, Nev.—Lady Luck was not the Spartans side Friday as the San José State women's tennis team suffered their first loss of the season, 4-2, at UNLV inside the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Spartans two points came from two wins in singles play. Alba Pedrero Galindo won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Raquel Villan Pereira needed three sets for her win 6-4, 4-7, 6-2.
UNLV started the morning by winning the doubles point with wins at #1 and #3. The Rebels took a 3-0 lead winning singles at #3 and #2. Pedrero Galindo and Villan Pereira then recorded the two Spartan points before UNLV closed out the match by winning at #6.
Two winning streaks ended on Friday with the loss at UNLV. The Spartans began the day with a 14-match winning streak, the longest in school history. Irena Muradyan had won 13 straight singles matches, including 12 straight at #3 singles, before she lost in straight sets Friday afternoon.
San José State is now 14-1 overall and 7-1 in Mountain West play. The team finishes the regular season on Saturday with a match against San Diego State beginning at 10 a.m. inside the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
