COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Josè State's Trevor Ernt has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week for April 19-25.
Ernt, a sophomore southpaw from Tustin, Calif. (Arnold O. Beckman HS), helped lead the Spartans to a thrilling victory over rival Fresno State last week. Behind Ernt's strong performance, SJSU opened up its four-game set against the Bulldogs with a 5-4 victory.
"I am happy for Trevor and proud of his strong showing on Friday night," says head coach Brad Sanfilippo. "He set the tone from the start and gave us a chance to win the ballgame.
Ernt tallied eight strikeouts in seven innings of work on the night. He allowed just one earned run on four scattered hits and faced the minimum in four of his seven frames.
The sophomore now leads the nation in WHIP at a mark of 0.57.
This marks the first weekly honor of Ernt's career and the first for the Spartans this season. In addition, this marks the program's first weekly award from the conference office since Fineas Del Bonta-Smith was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week on March 18, 2019.
SJSU now sets its sights on a showdown with No. 8 Oregon as the club travels to Eugene for a two-game set with the Ducks. The first game of the series is set for a 4:05 p.m. first pitch on Tuesday afternoon.
