This Week in San José State Athletics is here to catch you up on last week's action and see what's ahead for the Spartans!

Please note - In accordance with the SJSU Adapt Plan that restricts visitors to campus facilities, the San José State University Athletics Department will continue the policy of no fans at home sporting events for the remainder of the 2021 spring semester. San José State is currently in "Phase 2: Modified Campus" which restricts visitors to campus facilities to essential staff or those who need to work on campus for instructional purposes.

Women's Tennis (15-1, 8-1)
2021 Mountain West Champions

This Week: The Spartans are getting ready for the 2021 NCAA Tournament after winning the program's second Mountain West Championship last Saturday

Last Week:  For the second time in school history, San José State clinched a Mountain West Championship in Las Vegas. This time, the opponent was San Diego State who the Spartans defeated 4-1 early last Saturday afternoon for the 2021 MW title.

Spartan Fact: The Spartans like clinching MW Championships inside the Fertitta Tennis Complex. The 2017 team defeated UNLV 4-0 in the championship match of the tournament that year for the team's first MW title.

Spartan Fact #2: The Spartans earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will find out their opponent during the women's tennis selection show on Monday, May 3 at 3 p.m. PT on NCAA.com.

Women's Golf
This Week: The Spartans await word from the NCAA this week on their fate for the 2021 NCAA Championships with the announcement of the 72 teams and 24 individuals that will compete at regionals May 10-12.

Spartan Fact: The Spartans have won three national championships, 1987, 1989, 1992.

Baseball (4-10, 2-5 MW)
This Week: The Spartans return to action for five contests this week, facing No. 8 Oregon in Eugene on Tuesday and Wednesday before heading to UC Davis for a three-game series over the weekend. 

Last Week: San Jose State took a game off Fresno State as it returned to Excite Ballpark for the first time this month.

Spartan Fact: Sophomore Trevor Ernt was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week after striking out eight in SJSU's 5-4 victory over the Bulldogs.

Men's Golf
This Week:  The team is preparing for the 2021 Mountain West Championships which will be held April 30-May 1 in Tucson, Ariz.

Softball (5-18, 1-8)
This Week: The Spartans will get ready to grind for three more weeks as they get set to close out the regular season with three-straight weekends of conference play beginning this Friday against Utah State in San Jose.

Last Week: San Jose State was on a bye in conference play. The Spartans were supposed to play a non-conference contest at Cal, but the game was canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Golden Bears' program.

Spartan Fact: The Spartans will play six of their last nine regular season games at home.

Track & Field
This Week: No action. 

Last Week: San Jose State competed for the final time in the 2021 regular season, setting multiple school records at the Fresno State Invitational in Clovis. 

Spartan Fact: The women's 4x100 team finished in first place and set a school record with its mark of 45.32 seconds in Clovis. The team currently ranks No. 17 in the region (top-24 qualify for nationals).

Beach Volleyball (3-7)
This Week: The team finishes the 2021 season on Tuesday with a dual against San Francisco at Spartan Beach.

Last Week: The Spartans defeated Sacramento State 5-0 at Spartan Beach last Wednesday before playing four teams ranked in the top-15 at Stanford over the weekend.

Spartan Fact: Senior Kylie Lingenfelter will be playing in her final match as a Spartan on Tuesday. The team will honor her prior to the match.

Women's Water Polo (2-14, 1-11 MPSF)
This Week: San Jose State plays at the 2021 MPSF Tournament, April 30 – May 2, hosted by Arizona State. The Spartans begin the three-day tournament as the #7-seed with #2-seed UCLA as their first opponent on April 30, at 9:00 a.m. A San José State win guarantees matches on May 1 and May 2. A Spartan loss means the final match of the season will be on May 1 against the loser of the Stanford-Indiana match-up.
 
Last Week: The Spartans lost twice at #2 Stanford, 16-5 and 16-4.

Spartan Fact: The last time San José State faced UCLA at the MPSF Tournament was during the 2008 season. One of the players on the team that season was current Spartan head coach Beth Harberts who was an honorable mention All-America selection that season.
