Spartans Drop Pitcher's Duel In Series Finale

San Luis Obispo, Calif. - While the first six games of San José State's season were filled with offense, Saturday's series finale in San Luis Obispo was anything but. 

It was Cal Poly, however, who came up on the winning end of the pitcher's duel, taking game three by a score of 3-0. The Spartans (3-4) secured three hits for the day off the bats of freshman Kai Saterstrom and seniors Andrew Jurado and Ruben Mercado. 

SJSU will return to action and look to bounce back on Tuesday afternoon at San Francisco. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. at Benedetti Diamond. 

Singles
- Two of the team's three hits on the afternoon came in back-to-back fashion in the top of the sixth. 

- Saterstrom singled out of the leadoff spot in the top of the eighth. 

- Right-hander Jonathan Clark got the start for the Spartans and went six strong frames, striking out three while scattering five hits. 

- Sophomore Trevor Ernt continued his strong start to the season, leading the relief effort out of the bullpen with a hitless and scoreless inning of work. 

- Oregon transfer Keaton Chase also toed the rubber, throwing 16 pitches in his inning of work. 

- Sophomore Robert Hamchuk is leading the team in batting average after two weeks of play with a .500 clip at the plate. 

- Senior Nelson Padilla has tallied a team-high eight RBI through seven games.
