Alden & Thomison Help Lead Volleyball To 3-2 Win At Wyoming

Laramie, Wyo.—Allyson Alden and Ryann Thomison combined to hit .595 and the Spartans hit .305 for the match as San José State won at Wyoming 3-2 (25-20, 25-27, 25-18, 21-25, 15-12) Saturday afternoon in the final match of the season.
 
Alden and Thomison combined for 29 kills and nine blocks in the win. Alden hit .545 with 15 kills on 22 attempts and only three errors. Thomison hit .650 with 14 kills on 20 attempts and only one error. Thomison led the team with five blocks, two solo and three assists, while Alden had two solo and two block assists.
 
Haylee Nelson led the team with 20 kills, while Latahevai Lousi added 15 kills. Both players recorded double-doubles in the win. Lousi had 12 digs, while Nelson added 11 digs. Letizia Cammillucci added four kills, 14 digs and three blocks (1 solo, two assists).

Mia Schafer had her fifth double-double of the season with 55 assists and 14 digs. Sarah Smevog added 11 digs, three assists and two service aces.


 
Set 1 – The Spartans led from the first serve and won the set 25-20. Alden had five kills and the set-winning block, while three others recorded four kills in the win.

 
Set 2 – Wyoming led the set from first serve to win 27-25. The Spartans made it close at the end, from trailing 24-22 to tying the match at 24-24 and 25-25 before the Cowgirls won the set.
 
Set 3 – Similar to the first two sets, the team with the first lead won the set, again it was the Spartans with the 25-18 win. The Spartans sprinted out to a 9-3 lead and never looked back.

 
Set 4 – Unlike the previous three sets, the fourth set went back-and-forth between the two teams with two lead changes and 10 tied scores. The Spartans had a 12-9 lead on back-to-back Lousi kills and held onto it until Wyoming tied the set at 14-14 and 15-15 and took the lead for good at 17-16. The Cowgirls won the set 25-21 to force a fifth set.
 
Set 5 – The Spartans led for much of the set. Wyoming tied the score at 9-9, but San José State opened up the lead to 13-9. The Cowgirls cut the lead to two at 14-12, forcing a Spartan timeout, but Alden recorded her 15th kill of the match for the Spartans' 15-12 win.
 

 
The win ended the team's eight-match losing streak to the Cowgirls. It also ended the losing drought in Laramie as the Spartans had not won there since 1987. The Spartans have played in Laramie six times since joining the Mountain West.
 
San José State finishes the season with a 7-9 record.
