Castro Chosen As United Soccer Coaches Player Of The Week

Kansas City, Mo. - San Josè State senior Rudi Castro (San Josè, Calif.) has been named the United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week, becoming the first Spartan in program history to earn the national weekly honor.

Castro helped lead the Spartans to a perfect 3-0 record last week, notching victories over Utah Valley, Incarnate Word and UNLV. The forward tallied four assists in the three matches and scored the game-winning goal on Monday night against the Rebels.

SJSU owns a 5-1-2 record and is currently in second place on the WAC table.

Castro leads the nation in assists per match and was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. He is the first Spartan to garner multiple weekly honors from a conference office in the same season since Jorge Martinez accomplished the feat in the program's historic 2000 campaign

The hometown product is one assist away from becoming the first Spartan in 21 years to crack the top-10 on SJSU's single-season passing list.
