For the second time in the last three years, the Western Intercollegiate men's golf tournament presented by Topgolf will be televised nationally for three consecutive days by GOLF Channel.
The 74th Western Intercollegiate hosted by San Jose State University begins Monday, April 12, and concludes Wednesday, April 14, at the Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif. The Western Intercollegiate is the longest running college golf tournament dating back to 1947.
Originally, the 74th Western Intercollegiate was scheduled for a year ago, but was rescheduled to 2021 due to the start of the COVID19 pandemic.
Thirteen teams and 92 total players will compete for top honors on the par 70, 6,615-yard Alister MacKenzie designed course. Teams consist of six players with the best five scores from each 18 holes of play counting to the team total.
San Jose State, with 12 Western Intercollegiate team championships, welcomes BYU, California, UC Irvine, Colorado State, Hawaii, Oregon, Pepperdine, San Diego State, Stanford, Southern California, Texas El Paso, and Washington to the 74th Western Intercollegiate. Stanford is the defending team champion finishing ahead of California, San Jose State and Southern California for its ninth Western Intercollegiate.
All 92 players are competing for the Western Intercollegiate's Blue Jacket, awarded to the person with the lowest individual score. In 2019, Stanford senior Isaiah Salinda won a playoff on the fifth extra hole over San Jose State junior Sean Yu after each player finished 54 holes with eight-under par 202 totals.
Many to play in a Western Intercollegiate go on to play professionally. Past players account for 482 PGA Tour victories including 46 "major championships." Thirteen Western Intercollegiate alums are competing in the 2021 Masters in Augusta, Ga.
Since spectators will not be allowed at Pasatiempo due to COVID-19 protocols, golf fans can follow the 74th Western Intercollegiate on GOLF Channel and its social and digital media platforms or statistically online via GolfStat.com.
GOLF Channel, which joined the Western Intercollegiate family starting in 2019, has three hours of live coverage daily starting with prime-time coverage for each of the first two rounds, April 12 and 13, beginning at 7:00 p.m. (ET)/4:00 p.m. (PT).
