Women's Golf Continues in 13th Place at NCAA Stanford Regional

Stanford, Calif.—Kajsa Arwefjäll shot an even-par 71 to lead the San José State women's golf team Tuesday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Stanford Regional. The Spartans finished the day in 13th place at the par 71 Stanford Golf Course.
 
Arwefjäll and teammate Antonia Malate are tied for 20th at one-over 143. Arwefjäll made two birdies, two bogeys and 14 pars during her second round. She started the round with four straight pars on holes 10-13 as SJSU started the round on #10. Arwefjäll then made a birdie on the par-3 #14 before a bogey on #15 found her at even par again. She made five consecutive pars before a bogey on #3, three pars, birdie on #7 and two pars to end at even-par 71.
 
Malate shot a one-over 72 on Tuesday, making two birdies, three bogeys and 13 pars. She started the day with two pars, then birdied #12 to go to one-under par, but made bogeys on two of her next three holes to go to one-over par through six holes. Malate then made pars on nine of her next 10 holes, making a birdie on #5 to go to even par. She made a bogey on #8 before making par on #9 to finish her round.
 
Three other Spartans shot better in the second round compared to the first. Jordyn Parr shot a two-over 73 and is tied for 44th at five-over 147. She started the day one-under par through five holes (10-14), with a birdie on the par-5 #12. She fell back to even par after a bogey on #15 and a double bogey on #17 found her at two-over. Parr was three over after a bogey on #1, but made par on seven of her final eight holes, making a birdie on the par-3 #8, to finish a two-over 73.
 
Louisa Carlbom shot a four-over 75 in the second round and is tied for 79th at 155. She started round par-birdie-eagle on holes 10-11-12 to get to three-under through three holes. Her second eagle of the season came on the par-five, 477-yard #12. Carlbom made three pars before a double bogey and bogey found her at even par for her first nine holes.
 
Jadan Gonzalez shot a 77 in the second round and made a birdie and 11 pars during the round. She is tied for 90th at 160.
 
San José State was six strokes better on Tuesday, shooting a 291 in the second round and is 13th in the team standings at 588. The Spartans trail sixth-place Florida by 11 shots heading into the final round. Host Stanford has a 22-shot lead over second-place Virginia Tech. The Cardinal shot 13-under for the second round and are at -25 for the two rounds.
 
The top six teams and top three individuals, not on an advancing team, will compete at the 2021 NCAA Women's Golf Championship, May 21-26, at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
 
The Spartans begin final round action on Wednesday at 9 a.m., off of the 10th tee. The team will play the final round with Iowa State and Sacramento State.
