College Station, Texas ---- San Jose State University Director of Athletics Marie Tuite is one of 21 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) athletics directors participating in the second annual Minority Coaches Advancement Association's (MCAA) virtual mock interview session, Sunday, May 16.
The goal of the one-day session is to assist coaches of color in their professional growth and advancement in the coaching profession.
Tuite is one of five athletics directors from Mountain West football-playing members serving as volunteer panelists/interviewers of the 16 current assistant coaches selected to participate in the virtual mock interview session. The athletics directors from Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico, and UNLV join Tuite in representing the Mountain West.
Nine of the 10 FBS conferences have at least one athletics director serving as a volunteer panelist. Tuite also is one of nine FBS athletics directors participating as a panelist that accepted an invitation to play in a 2020 post-season bowl game or had its football team finish in the top-25 of the final Associated Press poll.
"I'm excited to participate and assist in any way possible to increase the pool of capable and qualified head coaches of color in college football. The coaches selected to participate in this year's program can be leading candidates in the next cycle of college football head coaching hires and their opportunity to prepare and practice interviewing in front of a panel of athletics directors and decision makers will be invaluable," said Tuite. "And, I'm looking forward to meeting these future head coaches and offer insight and guidance as they prepare for the next chapter of their careers."
Besides the FBS athletics directors, eight FBS head coaches, representatives from four executive search firms that assist in the college athletics hiring process, and one university president are volunteer interview panelists.
The 16 coaches of color represent four of the FBS' "Power Five" conferences, one National Football League team, two Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) conferences, and two NCAA Division II programs.
The MCAA was founded to "…provide awareness to the issues affecting appropriate minority representation for men and women within athletics and athletics administration while also providing essential professional development opportunities for the preparation of advancement."
