San Jose, Calif.—Micheala Gentry will join the San José State University women's gymnastics program beginning with the 2021-22 school year, as announced by Spartan head coach Joanne Bowers.
Gentry, the daughter of Terri Wilson and Michael Gentry of Oklahoma City, Okla., is a Level 10 gymnast who trains at Edmond Gymnastics Academy for coaches Deana Martinez and Anni Martin. A Level 10 gymnast, Gentry brings depth to the vault lineup after winning two vault titles during the 2021 club season. She plans to major in political science and is an honors student at Putnam City North High School.
Why San José State
"I chose San José State because I instantly connected with the coaches and gymnasts. Their professionalism paired with their strong sense of team is what made me realize that SJSU is the school for me. I am excited to grow as a student and a gymnast and form relationships to last a lifetime. I am so excited for the next four years!"
Coach Bowers on Micheala
"We are thrilled to announce the commitment of Micheala Gentry as a preferred walk-on to our Spartan Gymnastics Program. Gentry (nickname) is a very powerful gymnast and should make an instant impact in our vault and floor lineups. She also has lots of difficulty on bars and beam and could add depth in those events as well. From the moment we met her, we just knew she was a great fit for our team culture and cannot wait to have her join our Spartan family this Fall. She checks off ALL the boxes: great student, great human being, and great gymnast!"
