Spartans Swept In Friday Doubleheader

SAN JOSE, Calif. - It was a long, long day for San Jose State softball with a combined six hours and five minutes on the diamond in Friday's doubleheader against Colorado State. Unfortunately for the Spartans they were unable to come away with a win in either game, falling 4-3 in 13 innings in game one and 5-1 in game two.

With the losses, San Jose State drops to 9-22 overall and 5-12 in league play. They will have one final chance to end the season on a high note tomorrow in the series and season finale against the Rams beginning at noon. The Spartans will celebrate senior day as part of pregame festivities.

Game One - Colorado State 4, San Jose State 3
- The Spartans tallied nine hits led by Alyssa Graham (3-for-5). Graham finished the game with two runs scored and launched a solo homer, her second of the season, in the fourth to put SJSU on top 1-0.

- The game lasted 13 innings and four hours and one minute. It is the longest game since April 19, 2013 when the Spartans won 1-0 over Texas-Arlington in 14 innings.
- Jessica Giacoma also had a pair of hits.
- After Colorado State finally found the scoreboard in the top of the sixth and took a 2-1 lead, the Spartans quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI single by Makayla Englestad and a throwing error on the Rams that allowed Graham to score from third. The Rams then tied the game in the seventh on sacrifice fly.
- Neither team was able to break through for the next five innings until Colorado State finally plated the go-ahead run in the 13th.
- Caroline Bowman (5.2 innings) got the starting nod but Jenessa Ullegue (7.1) worked the second half and was charged with the loss to drop to 6-9.
- Colorado State starting pitcher Jessica Jarecki (5-9) threw over 200 pitches in 12.0 innings to pick up the win. Reliever Sydney Hornbuckle worked the final frame to pick up the save.

Game Two - Colorado State 5, San Jose State 1
- The Spartan offense was held in control in the second game with just four hits. Karizma Bergesen (2-for-2) connected on half of those knocks and plated SJSU's lone run with a RBI single in the third.
- Graham laced a two-out double in the seventh to finish the day with four hits.
- Ullegue connected on her second-career triple.

- Bowman (3-12) was charged with the loss after allowing four runs on five hits. Ullegue took over in the fifth and worked the final three innings with only one run allowed.
- Colorado State's Julia Cabral (5-6) picked up the win after working a complete game.
