Women Topple School Records, Men Win Individual Titles On Final Day Of Conference Championships

Clovis, Calif. - The individual titles continued to roll in for the San José State University men's program while the women's team set multiple school records on Saturday at the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The men's team finished the meet in sixth place with a total of 70 points. That marks the program's best finish in the outdoor championships since reinstatement.

On the women's side, the Spartans ended the championships in 10th place with 34 points.

MEET NOTES - SATURDAY

- Senior Roman Johnson finished with a mark of 10.40 seconds (wind-aided at 2.1) to win the 100m dash championship. Johnson is the first Spartan men's track and field athlete to win a 100-meter dash conference championship since Ken Thomas won the 100 at the 1980, 1981 and 1982 PCAA Championship meets.

- Had Johnson's time not been wind-aided, the time would have been the fastest since Thomas' 10.35 in the preliminary round of the 1980 NCAA Championships.

- "This was the hardest-working season I have ever had," Johnson said after the meet. "The support that came along the way from my teammates is unmatched and I wouldn't trade this year for anything. This week was one I will always remember."

- The program's other championship on Saturday came in the 4x100 relay, where Jalen Adams, Nicholas Harper, Aidan Jardon and Roman Johnson combined for a time of 40.59. The 4x100 relay conference championship is the program's first since 1982, when the Spartans won the PCAA Championships in Logan, Utah with a time of 40.27 at altitude.

- Johnson is the first Spartan in 39 years to double win in the 4x100 and open 100.

- The women's program also saw success in the relays Saturday, led by the 4x400 team (Sydney Bentley, Sophie Liao, Kaiya Johnson, Daryia Greene) that placed second with a time of 3:42.96. That set a new school record, topping the previous best of 3:44.74 that was set earlier this season at the Fresno State Invitational.

- The 4x100 team (Kylia Smith, Daryia Greene, Sophie Liao, Lonsha Bradford) set a school record themselves and finished in third place with a mark of 44.94 seconds, beating the program's previous record of 46.68 (set at 2016 Mountain West Championships).

- Senior Aidan Jardon led the efforts in the 200m dash, placing second with a time of 21.27.

- Senior Daryia Greene set a new school record and finished in third in the 400m dash, clocking a time of 53.54 to add six more points to her team's total. The mark tops the program's previous best of 55.24, set by Caitlin Wilson at the 2015 Beach Invitational.

- The men's 4x400 team (Harry Overstreet, Christian Rodriguez, Aidan Jardon, Nicholas Harper) added six points to the team's ledger with a third place finish and time of 3:16.15.

- Sophomore Jacob Lopez led the program's efforts in the throws on Saturday, hitting a mark of 45.50m in the discus.
