Arwefjäll Advanced to Fourth Round of NCAA Champioinships

Scottsdale, Ariz.—It took a sudden death playoff with two other competitors, but San José State women's golfer Kajsa Arwefjäll will play in the final round of stroke play Monday at the 2021 NCAA Championships at the Grayhawk Golf Course.

Arwefjäll shot an even-par 72 in the third round and was tied for 34th at four-over 220. After cuts were made in the team standings as the top-15 teams advanced to play on Monday, the top-nine individuals, not on an advancing team, were named to also play the final round.

Arwefjäll was tied with Chloe Salort of Kent State and Laney Frye of Kentucky for the final two spots. In the sudden-death playoff, Arwefjäll and Salort made pars putts on #18, while Frye, who put her ball in the water, just missed a 12-foot putt for par.

Starting her third round on #10, Arwefjäll started the day going bogey-birdie-bogey, before then going par-birdie-par to get back to even par. She then ended the round birdie-bogey-par to be even-par 36 through her first nine holes.
Over her final nine holes, she made seven pars, five consecutive from holes 1-5, bogey on #6 and a birdie on #8, to finish at even par.

Stanford's Rachel Heck leads the tournament at 10-under 206. She has a five-shot lead over teammate Angelina Ye.

Final round action will be shown live on GOLF Channel beginning at 2:00 p.m. PDT. Arwefjäll starts her final round of stroke play on Monday at 10:21 a.m. off of the first tee with Celina Sattelkau of Vanderbilt and Salort.
