San José State women's golfer Kajsa Arwefjäll and men's track and field athlete Roman Johnson are the Student-Athletes of the Month for May, presented by the Smoking Pig BBQ Company.
Arwefjäll competed as an individual at the 2021 NCAA Women's Golf Championships as she tied for 36th at six-over 294. She is just the third Spartan women's golfer to qualify as an individual to the championship. Arwefjäll advanced to the championships after finishing fifth at the NCAA Stanford Regional at three-under par. She shot a four-under 67 in the final round to advance, tying for the lowest round by a Spartan at a regional.
Johnson was a double winner at the 2021 Mountain West Championships in Clovis. He won the 100 meters and was a member of the 4x100 relay team. Johnson is the first Spartan in 39 years to double win in those events and the first men's runner to win the 100-meter dash conference championship since 1982. For his successes, he received All-MW honors for both.
