RENO, Nev. – The Spartans combined for 10 hits and played error-free baseball but were unable to upset Mountain West champion Nevada in Friday's series opener.
Reno native Nelson Padilla led the team with two RBI on the evening and now ranks third on the club with 11 runs batted in on the season.

It was sophomore Taylor Justus who brought home his team's first run of the game, cutting into a 5-0 deficit with an RBI single to score California transfer Max Flower in the bottom half of the second. San José State was the designated home team on Friday after the previously scheduled series in San José was canceled.
Flower - along with Jack Colette and Ruben Ibarra - all tallied multi-hit games in the lid-lifter.
Ibarra's hitting streak has now reached five contests, one game ahead of Connor Konishi's current mark of four straight contests with a hit. SJSU tallied five consecutive hits at one point in the sixth inning, marking the second time this season the team has accomplished the feat (bottom of the second vs. California, March 30).

The Spartans scored four runs in that sixth frame and brought the tying run to the plate before the Wolf Pack got out of the jam.
Sophomore southpaw Trevor Ernt got the start on the mound and went three innings while striking out four. Senior Sean Prozell was the first Spartan out of the bullpen, notching a pair of strikeouts himself.
San José State will look to return to the win column when it returns to the field for a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Reno.
