David Miller Named San Jose State MBB Assistant Coach

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose State men's basketball head coach Tim Miles has made another key addition to his 2021-22 coaching staff with David Miller being named the Spartans' newest assistant coach. Miles made the announcement on Wednesday.

"David comes from a basketball family," Miles said. "He's had great experience at the University of Arizona and UC Santa Barbara in operations and on-campus recruiting. It's time he gets an opportunity to be on the court working with young people and helping them develop their skills. I have great confidence he will be a strong recruiter and help elevate San Jose State Men's Basketball."

Miller joins the Spartans from the University of Arizona where he served as the Wildcats' Director, On-Campus Recruiting and Basketball Analytics for two seasons. In the role, Miller was primarily responsible for overseeing all video operations, assisted with organization of official and unofficial visits and managed the analytics and data needs of the program.

Miller's overall stint with the Wildcats lasted seven seasons beginning in 2010 as a student manager, a role he held for four years before serving for two more years as a graduate manager. He then headed east to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to work with the Alabama Crimson Tide for two seasons, first as the program's assistant video coordinator and then as their director of player development.

After two years in the Yellowhammer State, Miller then made his way to California and spent two seasons on staff at UC Santa Barbara where he served as the program's Director of Basketball Operations in 2017-18 and 2018-19. The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native then made his return to Arizona for two seasons leading up to his stint with San Jose State.

"I want to thank Coach Miles for the great opportunity to join the San Jose State program," Miller said. "He has a great track record of turning around programs and I couldn't be more excited to be a part of the Spartan Family."

During Miller's time on-staff at Arizona, the Wildcats reached three Pac-12 Championships and made four NCAA Tournament appearances, including two trips to the Elite Eight and one to the Sweet Sixteen.

Miller's playing career lasted two seasons at El Camino College before transferring to Arizona to become a manager. He earned his bachelor's degree in English and a Master's in education, both from Arizona.

Miller's father, David, is a former assistant coach of the New Orleans Hornets.
