Arwefjäll, Malate Named First Team All-MW

Colorado Springs, Colo.—San José State women's golfers Kajsa Arwefjäll and Antonia Malate have been named first team All-Mountain West honorees, as selected by the conference's head women's golf coach.
 
Arwefjäll, a sophomore from Hollviken, Sweden, leads the team in stroke average at 72.35 in 20 rounds played. She has shot nine rounds of par or better including three rounds in the 60s. Her low round was a 67 in the second round of the MountainView Collegiate. Arwefjäll placed in the top-10 in six of the seven tournaments played in the spring including four top-five finishes. She tied for ninth at the MW Championship.
 
Malate, a junior from Seaside, Calif., had a 72.95 stroke average for her 20 rounds played. She had eight rounds of par or better including two rounds in the 60s, and shot a 67 in the second round of the Gunrock Invitational. Malate had three top-five finishes including second place at the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational and tied for seventh at the MW Championship.

This is the second consecutive year both players have earned All-MW honors. Last year, they were named second team All-MW honorees for the shortened 2019-20 season.
 
San José State competes next week at the NCAA Stanford Regional, May 10-12, at the Stanford Golf Course. The Spartans enter the regional as the 14 seed and play with Pepperdine and New Mexico State Monday beginning at 9:50 a.m.
