Berkeley, Calif.—The San José State women's tennis team finished the 2021 season on Friday at the first round of the NCAA Championships as the Spartans fell 4-0 to California at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley.
The Spartans fought for over two hours with the 13th-ranked Golden Bears. Cal won the doubles point, winning at #2 and #3.
In singles, Irena Muradyan won her first set, 6-0, at #3 singles and was tied 6-6 and headed to a tiebreaker when the match was called. Alba Pedrero Galindo lost the first set, 6-3, but was leading 6-5 in the second set when the match ended. Jovana Babic was still playing and trailing at #6 when Cal won the match (7-6 (3), 1-0).
The three Spartan pairs lost in straight sets. Raquel Villan Pereira lost 6-2, 6-1; Rozalina Youseva 6-2, 6-1; and Lara Marco Mas 6-1, 6-3.

San José State finishes the season with a 15-2 overall record, 8-1 Mountain West mark, a Mountain West Championship, and one of the best winning percentages in school history.
