SAN JOSE, Calif. – San José State men's basketball has made another huge addition to their 2021-22 roster in the form of 6-foot-11 forward, Shon Robinson. Head coach Tim Miles made the announcement on Friday.
"I remember watching Shon as a junior in Wichita, Kansas, when his talent was just beginning to blossom," Miles said. "I am thrilled we will be able to have the chance to develop him here at San José State."
The No. 85 overall prospect according to ESPN in the class of 2020, Robinson, a former four star prospect, heads to the South Bay after two seasons in Oxford, Miss., at Ole Miss. After redshirting in 2019-20, the big man played in six games for the Rebels last season with eight points on the year in a reserve role. A native of Chicago, Ill., he moved to Gilbert, Ariz., prior to his sophomore year of high school and made a name for himself as a senior at Eduprize High, becoming one of the top prospects in the state.
All Robinson did in his lone season at Eduprize was garner first team all-state and all-conference honors, and first team all-defense honors while leading the Eagles to a 26-2 record and the Canyon Athletic Association Division 2 State Championship title. He averaged a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds per game, as well as four blocks and three steals per contest defensively.
Robinson's best game of the year was a 42-point scoring barrage against Heritage Academy. He also excelled in the postseason, helping the Eagles defeat Chandler Tri-City Christian in the state finals by posting a double-double of 20 points, 10 blocks along with six rebounds. At season's end, he was rated as the No. 4 player in the state.
Robinson initially chose Ole Miss over an eye-popping list of offers that included finalists Gonzaga and Michigan, as well as Iowa, USC, Arizona, Arizona State, Florida, Florida State, Marquette, Texas Tech and many others. He joins the Spartans with four years of athletic eligibility remaining.
