SAN JOSE, Calif. – Another power five transfer has found a new home with San Jose State men's basketball. The Spartans have officially added South Carolina transfer Trey Anderson to their 2021-22 roster. Head coach Tim Miles made the announcement.
"I am extremely excited to add Trey Anderson to Spartan Basketball," Miles said. "I fully expect him to be highly productive in the Mountain West. He played for a great staff at South Carolina, and will be ready to help us from day one."
Anderson joins the Spartans after two years of experience playing in the Southeastern Conference at the University of South Carolina. After playing sparingly in his freshman year (2019-20), he saw a big production bump last season with 13 appearances, including his first collegiate start, in which he shot 60.9 percent from the floor (14-of-23).
Anderson's best game as a Gamecock was on Jan. 19, 2021 at Missouri in which he scored a career-high 17 points in 24 minutes off the bench. The guard then made his lone start with the program on the road against Tennessee on Feb. 17.
A native of San Diego, Anderson signed with South Carolina as a three-star prospect out of Woodstock Academy, where he averaged 10 points and seven rebounds per game. He played his prep career at Mater Dei Catholic High School and helped lead the program to a league championship title and a berth in the San Diego Section Open Division Semifinal playoffs in his senior season. That year, Anderson was a force all over the court, averaging 16.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest as he earned the 2017-18 Mesa League Player of the Year Award.
Anderson joins the Spartans with three seasons of eligibility remaining.
