SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose State softball made a huge addition to their 2022 roster in the form of Texas Tech transfer Trenity Edwards, who has officially signed on with the Spartans. Head coach Tammy Lohmann made the announcement on Tuesday.
"We are thrilled to announce the addition of Trenity to our Spartan Family," Lohmann said. "She brings a powerful bat, experience, leadership and a passion for the game that is absolutely infections. We cannot wait for her to get to San Jose!"
Edwards joins the Spartans after an outstanding season at Texas Tech that saw the Moore, Okla. native put her name in the record books en route to earning NFCA All-Region First Team honors. Starting 51 games primarily as the designated hitter, Edwards rocked opposing pitchers with a team-high 14 home runs and recorded the fifth-best slugging percentage in program history (.713). Her 14 round-trippers are tied for the seventh most in Texas Tech single-season history. The sophomore also ranked second on the squad for the year with a .357 batting average while posting 45 RBI and 102 total bases. She ranked fourth in hits (51), doubles (9) and on-base percentage (.423), and fifth with 25 runs scored.
In February of 2019, Edwards was honored as the Big 12 Player of the Week after helping lead the Red Raiders to a 5-0 record at the Plainsman Invitational in Auburn, Ala., that included the program's first-ever win over No. 21 Auburn. From Feb. 15 to March 1, she went on an 11-game hitting streak that included seven home runs. Edwards posted 10 multi-hit games, including three 3-hit outings, and was second on the team with 12 multi-RBI games. She was clutch for the Red Raiders in the 2019 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional batting .500 on the weekend (8-of-16).
Prior to Texas Tech, Edwards began her collegiate career in SEC Country at Missouri. In her freshman year as a Tiger, she made 33 starts at catcher while making 41 total appearances and finished the season with a .245 batting average. She ranked third on the team with 27 RBI and her five homers were good enough for fifth.
Edwards was a hot commodity coming out of Southmoore High School where she was a four-time letterwinner and ranked as the No. 178 overall prospect by FLOSoftball. In 2013, she helped her program win the Oklahoma Class 6A State Championship title and was honored by The Oklahoman on their All-City team, a feat she repeated in 2014. In 2015, she was named The Oklahoman's Player of the Year. In 2016, as a member of the East Cobb Bullets, Edwards took home the 2016 18U USA Softball Junior Olympic Club title.
