Spartans Earn Third Consecutive GCAA Academic Team Honor

Norman, Okla.----- Make it three in a row for the San José State University men's golf program. The Spartans were one of more than 100 NCAA Division I programs recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) as an "All-Academic" team during the 2020-21 school year.

To earn a GCAA "Outstanding Team Academic Award," a men's golf program must have a team grade-point average of 3.00 or higher on a 4.00 scale.

"I've been very proud of the boys all year in all facets and this honor represents a part of their amazing work this year," said San Jose State University men's golf coach and GCAA President John Kennaday.

"This (honor) is a small indicator of how special these guys are. I think the (golf practice) facility has helped our stroke average, and helped our ability to time manage and be more efficient in all aspects of college life. That's a part of the puzzle, too."

The Spartans' coach also attributes earning the GCAA award for a third consecutive year to San Jose State's growing attractiveness among prospective student-athletes with notable academic achievements.

San Jose State is one of five Mountain West schools (New Mexico, Colorado State, Fresno State, and Wyoming) honored for its 2020-21 men's golf team academic performance.
