Nagurski Trophy Watch List Is Latest Recognition For Spartans' Cade Hall

Dallas, Texas-----  For San Jose State University defensive lineman Cade Hall, appearing on a college football national watch list the past two weeks is a regular occurrence.

The 2021 Bronko Nagurski Award presented by Lending Tree honors the best defensive player regardless of position in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) is the latest preseason recognition for Hall, named to several 2020 All-America teams.

Hall is the first San Jose State player since defensive lineman Travis Johnson was named to a Nagurski Award watch list in 2012. The award is named after Bronko Nagurski, an outstanding college football player at the University of Minnesota and later professionally with the Chicago Bears who is enshrined in the Pro Football and College Football halls of fame.

A year ago, Hall was second nationally in quarterback sacks per game with 10.0 in seven contests as San Jose State won the Mountain West championship for the first time since joining the conference in 2013 and first league title since sharing a portion of the Big West championship in 1991.

This summer, Hall was named to the Bednarik Award watch list, was chosen in a media ballot as the Mountain West preseason Defensive Player of the Year, and named to several preseason All-America teams. In three seasons for the Spartans, Hall has 108 tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss, 14.0 quarterback sacks and three forced fumbles.

Hall is one of 90 players on the 2021 Nagurski Trophy watch list. The 2021 Nagurski Trophy recipient is chosen from five finalists voted on by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) at the annual Nagurski Trophy  Awards banquet presented by LendingTree on December 6 in Charlotte, N.C.
