SAN JOSE, Calif. – San José State women's soccer head coach Lauren Hanson has been named to the Silicon Valley Business Journal 40 Under 40 Class of 2021. The annual awards program honors 40 individuals under the age of 40 who impact their industries and communities in Silicon Valley.
Hanson is one of just two honorees in this year's class that works in athletics, joining Moon Javaid, Chief Strategy Officer for the San Francisco 49ers. She is also the only representative from San José State University.
"I'm humbled to be a part of this amazing group of leaders in this incredible valley, and I'm thankful for the recognition of our program's impact on the community," Hanson said.
Entering her eighth season at the helm of San José State women's soccer, Hanson has built the program into one of the elite teams in the Mountain West. A two-time Mountain West Coach of the Year winner, she has guided the Spartans to two MW Tournament titles (2015 and 2018), a regular season title (2017) and two appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2015, 2018).
The winningest coach in program history, Hanson has coached 27 All-Mountain West selections and 47 Academic All-Mountain West honorees. Included in her list of former student-athletes are Mountain West Defensive Players of the Year Zoe Makrigiannis, Darriell Franklin and Kristen Amarkiwa, and MW Newcomer of the Year Jamilecxth Becerra.
"It's been a pleasure getting to know Coach Hanson," San José State Director of Athletics Jeff Konya said. "She is an absolute rock star and has built an outstanding program. I'm looking forward to watching her and the women's soccer program continue to make strides and build on their success."
Hanson and the rest of the Class of 2021 will be honored in a virtual celebration on Thursday, August 5th, via Zoom from 4:00-5:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are $45. For the full list of winners and to purchase tickets, click here.
