Spartans Receive Votes In USA Today Sports AFCA Coaches Preseason Poll

Waco, Texas -----  San Jose State University's football popularity spreads beyond acknowledging  players like quarterback Nick Starkel, defensive lineman Cade Hall, offensive tackle Jack Snyder, tight end Derrick Deese, Jr., and linebacker Tysyn Parker as top players on nationally recognized watch lists this summer.
 
            The Spartans, the defending Mountain West champion, are 38th in the USA Today Sports AFCA Coaches preseason football poll.
 
San Jose State received 18 points from the panel of 65 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) coaches. Defending national champion Alabama tops the preseason poll with 63 of 65 first-place votes and 1,621 points.
 
Two San Jose State opponents, the University of Southern California (USC) at #14 and Nevada tied for #53, are listed in the preseason poll. The Spartans play at USC on September 4 and at Nevada on November 6.
 
In comparison with the Spartans' last coaches preseason poll appearance in 2013, San Jose State was 40th with eight points and went on to post a 6-6 win-loss record.
 
The Associated Press college football writers poll will be released the week of August 16.
 
San Jose State opens the 2021 season hosting Southern Utah, Saturday, August 28, in a 7:00 p.m. (PT) game in CEFCU Stadium.
