Spartans Set To Open 2021 With Exhibition In Sacramento

SAN JOSE, Calif. - A new season of women's soccer is upon us and the San Jose State Spartans are gearing up for another run at the title. Before diving in to the nonconference schedule next week with a short trip to take on the defending national champions in Santa Clara, the Spartans will face make the quick drive north to Sacramento for a friendly exhibition against the Hornets of Sacramento State. NEW LOOK SPARTANS
»    The Spartans made nine additions to their roster in the offseason. Junior college transfer Kiana Miyazato joins the ranks after leading Phoenix College to the NJCAA Division II National Title. Additionally, eight freshmen signed with SJSU during the 2021 signing period.

SPARTAN SIGNEE EARNS PRESTIGIOUS HONOR
»    Freshman Bella Flocchini was among the very elite in high school women's soccer last year. So elite that she was named the 2020-21 Gatorade Nevada Girls Soccer Player of the Year. She is the first Spartan signee to ever win the prestigious award.

HOUSE LOOKING TO BUILD ON
»    Sophomore Evan House returns to the pitch in 2021 after earning a spot on the Mountain West All-Newcomer Team as a freshman. She tied for the team lead in 2020 with three total points.

HANSON NAMED TO 40 UNDER 40
»    Spartan head coach Lauren Hanson has been a fantastic leader and mentor ever since she took over as the women's soccer head coach in 2014. The winningest coach in program history was recently honored by the Silicon Valley Business Journal as a member of their 2021 40 Under 40 Class of 2021, which honors individuals under the age of 40 that have made major impacts in their fields throughout the Silicon Valley. She was one of just two honorees that work in athletics and was the lone representative from San Jose State University.

A LOOK AT THE OPPONENT
»    Sacramento State was 3-4-4 in 2020-21 and is so far 0-1 in exhibition play this season. The Hornets, led by 15th-year head coach Randy Dedini, dropped a 2-0 final in their opening exhibition against the California Storm of the Women's Premiere Soccer League.
