Spartans Unveil 2021-22 Basketball Schedule

San José, Calif. – San José State women's basketball head coach Jamie Craighead has announced her team's 2021-22 schedule, highlighted by 14 home games and four contests against 2021 NCAA Tournament teams.

The Spartans will tip off the season on Nov. 9 at Washington State, opening Craighead's ninth season at the helm against a Cougar team that just made a return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 30 years.

San José State's home opener is set for Nov. 17 against Santa Clara, marking the program's first contest at the Provident Credit Union Event Center in 652 days.

"We have put together another strong slate of games for the upcoming season," says head coach Jamie Craighead. "I am looking forward to getting back out on the court and a return to playing in front of our fantastic fans."

Following SJSU's first homestand of the season (after hosting Santa Clara, Pacific and Academy of Art will also make their way to San José), the team will hit the road for three consecutive games.

A trip to Moraga rounds out the first month of the season as Craighead's squad will meet Saint Mary's on Nov. 30. They will then make their way south, facing second-year Division I member UC San Diego in La Jolla on Dec. 3 before heading to Pauley Pavilion to meet UCLA on Dec. 5. A No. 3 seed in last March's NCAA Tournament, the Bruins have made five consecutive trips to the NCAA's (reaching at least the Sweet Sixteen four times in that span).

To finish non-conference play, San José State is set to welcome UC Irvine (Dec. 15) and UC Santa Barbara (Dec. 21) to the Event Center.

One week after hosting the Gauchos, the Spartans will tip-off conference play at defending Mountain West champion New Mexico on Dec. 28. Their conference home opener will come later that week on New Year's Eve against Nevada, the first of nine league games to be played in San José.

Fresno State (Jan. 3) will pay a visit to the Event Center for the team's first game in January and 2021 NCAA Tournament qualifier Wyoming will be in town on Jan. 6 to round out SJSU's second three-game homestand of the season.

In the Mountain West's unbalanced schedule, the Spartans are set to face Utah State (Jan. 27 at home) and San Diego State (Feb. 16 at Viejas Arena) once and all other member institutions twice.

Senior Day will feature a visit from the conference's first-place finishers a year ago as the Lobos make the trip to San José on Feb. 25. The regular season finale is set for the final day of February as Boise State will host San José State.

The 2022 Mountain West Women's Basketball Championship will be held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas and is scheduled for March 6-9.
