San José, Calif. – First-year head coach Charles Ryan announced both the men's and women's cross country competition schedules on Thursday.
The Spartans slate features one meet in September and three throughout the month of October before a pair of postseason events are held in November. SJSU will not leave Northern California until the Mountain West Championships, scheduled for Oct. 30.
Unable to compete during the 2020-21 season due to local COVID-19 restrictions, the San Francisco State Invitational on Sept. 10 will mark the program's first meet in 657 days.
"Cross country season is always an exciting time of the year, especially here in the Bay Area," says Ryan. "I am excited to be able to see our team start to compete and I'm proud to be in a position to provide some stability and team-building opportunities to get everyone involved in supporting this program. COVID-19 realities took away the season last year so it will be fun to get back to something resembling regular order."
After starting the season in San Francisco, San José State will head to Rocklin, Calif. on Oct. 1 for the Sacramento State Invitational. It will then round out the regular season two weeks later in Sunnyvale at the Bronco Invitational on Oct. 16.
Ryan is entering his first season at the helm of the Spartan men's and women's cross country programs. The Bay Area native comes to San José with 14 years of NCAA coaching experience and won a pair of NCAA Division II national championships as the head track and field coach at Academy of Art.
