SAN JOSE, Calif. - For the first time in the 2021 fall semester, San Jose State fans have the opportunity to attend a live regular-season home event! That opportunity lies in the form of the Spartan women's soccer program hosting the University of San Francisco for a 7:00 p.m. kick on Thursday, August 26. Fans who show up to the Spartan Soccer Complex wearing blue and gold will receive free admission to the match!
First Touches
- An SJSU win over the Dons would be the program's first since 1999 when the Spartans defeated USF by a 3-1 final in San Jose. This is the first meeting between the programs since 2015 and just the second time in Lauren Hanson's tenure.
- Drawing an opening weekend match against the defending national champions is never easy, but the Spartans used the opportunity against No. 2 Santa Clara to gauge where they stand and showed plenty of grit and skill in the process.
- SJSU freshmen goalkeepers Autum Monty and Shayla Sugai turned plenty of heads against the Broncos, combining for 10 saves against one of the best scoring teams in the nation. Sophomore forward Evan House also made some impressive moves with a pair of on-goal shots in the opening half that just barely missed finding their mark.
- The University of San Francisco Dons, led by 10th year head coach Jim Millinder, enters the match with an 0-0-1 mark after tying the Oregon Ducks, 2-2, in their season opener. Freshman defender Kenna Roth scored both goals in the tying effort.
