Volleyball Falls 3-0 at #14 Oregon

Eugene, Ore.—Amethyst Harper and Latahevai Lousi led the Spartan hitting attack Saturday as the San José State volleyball team never gave up in their 3-0 loss at No. 14 Oregon inside the Matthew Knight Arena.
 
Harper recorded her second consecutive double-double with 11 kills and a team-best 15 digs. Lousi had a team-best 12 kills and four digs.
 
•Lousi and Ryann Thomison led the Spartans with three blocks each.
 
•The Spartans had a lead in every set against the Ducks including a 6-0 run in the third set to force an Oregon timeout, even though Oregon led 21-17.
 
•Haylee Nelson and Mia Schafer were named to the Oregon Invitational All-Tournament team. Nelson had seven kills and nine digs, while Schafer finished with 32 assists and eight digs against Oregon.
 

 
Match Summary
Set 1 – The Spartans stayed with the Ducks for much of the set, using three 3-0 scoring runs to take a 15-14 lead. Oregon then used an 11-4 run to win the set 25-19.
 

 
Set 2 – San José State had early leads of 4-2 and 8-6 in the set. SJSU stayed with the Ducks for most of the set, getting within three at 23-20 before Oregon scored two of the final three points.
 

 
Set 3 – Louis got the Spartans off to a 1-0 lead to start the set, but Oregon surged out to an 21-11 lead. San José State then scored six consecutive points on a mixture of Spartan kills and Duck hitting errors to get within four at 21-17 and force an Oregon timeout. The Spartans scored just one more point on a Lousi's 12th kill of the match as Oregon won 25-18.
 

The Spartans finish their Oregon trip on Sunday with a non-conference match at Portland State beginning at noon PT.
