SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose State women's soccer is set to host their first Friday night match of the 2021 campaign tomorrow when Loyola Marymount makes the drive north for a 7:00 p.m. showdown inside the Spartan Soccer Complex. The Spartans will then make a quick turnaround upon completion of the match for a short road trip themselves as they head south for a Sunday afternoon matinee against Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. SJSU is coming off a weekend split on the road where they took down Southern Utah, 2-1, before falling at Utah Valley, 2-0.

Despite the record, the Lions have been playing well against a difficult nonconference schedule with four of the six losses by just one goal. LMU is coming off a 3-0 loss to No. 4 UCLA where they held the Bruins scoreless in the second half.
  • Friday's match with be the fourth overall meeting between the Lions and Spartans. The record is currently tied at 1-1-1 with the most recent meeting resulting in a 1-0 SJSU victory in 2019. This will be the Lions' first-ever match against SJSU in San Jose.
  • LMU is led by second-year head coach Jenny Bindon. Freshman defender Makiya Christensen is currently the Lions' top offensive threat with three points on the year.
  • Cal Poly is coming off a split weekend against Mountain West programs where they dropped a 2-1 final against Air Force before taking down Colorado College 2-1. The Mustangs are 3-3 on the season with all three wins coming in the last four matches. Cal Poly takes on Gonzaga on Friday before hosting the Spartans on Sunday.
  • This will be the 14th overall meeting between the programs dating back to 1997. The Spartans put an end to six-game losing skid against the Mustangs with a 1-0 victory in 2017 and the teams have tied in their last two meetings. SJSU is looking for the ir first win against the Mustangs in San Luis Obispo since 1999.
  • Cal Poly is led by Alex Crozier in his 29th year at the helm. Sophomore forward Nikki Trucco leads the Mustangs with four goals while sophomore defender Kylie Rojas was recently named the Big West Offensive Player of the Week.
