SAN JOSE, Calif. – Fresh off a thrilling 2-1 victory at CSU Bakersfield to start the 2021 season, the San José State men's soccer team is back in the Bay and will open up a two-match homestand on Thursday night against Sacramento State. The home opener is the first of two matches this week against programs hailing from one of the nation's top conferences as UC Davis comes calling on Sunday afternoon. First Touches

  • Thursday's contest will mark the finale of a three-match road trip to open the season for the Hornets. The club is off to an 0-2 start this year, falling to San Francisco on Thursday and Santa Clara on Sunday. Two different players - freshman Axel Ramirez and sophomore Michael Gonzalez - have scored goals thus far for Sacramento State.

  • The Aggies saw their last season wiped out due to the COVID-19 pandemic but went 13-5-2 and qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2019. The team was ranked No. 30 in the United Soccer Coaches national preseason poll and opened the 2021 campaign with close away losses against No. 9 Washington and Seattle U. UC Davis will be in action once more before heading to San José, hosting Gonzaga in its home opener on Thursday afternoon.

  • Both Willy MirandaandOmar Lemusjoined the exclusive club of Spartan men's soccer players with 10 career goals when they scored in Thursday's season opener at CSU Bakersfield.

  • The Spartans have now earned a win or draw in six of their last seven away matches. The team went 3-0-1 on the road a season ago, marking the first year since 2005 (5-0-1) that the program completed a regular season unbeaten on the road.

  • San José State is currently enjoying an eight-match unbeaten streak, the program's longest since its stretch of eight straight results in 2009. This marks the WAC's longest active streak by six matches (California Baptist, Grand Canyon, Seattle U, UNLV all at two).
