BOULDER, Colo.—Haylee Nelson had a team-best 14 kills, and Mia Schafer recorded her third double-double of the season as the San José State volleyball finished play at the Buffs Invitational Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Texas Tech.

Nelson was one of two players to record 10 or more kills in the match. She also had five digs, two aces and a block assists. Amethyst Harper added 11 kills, six digs and an ace in the match.
Schafer, who missed the past two matches, recorded 32 assists and a career-best 17 digs for her third double-double of the season and eighth of her career.
•Libero Sarah Smevog came close to her first career double-double with 14 digs and eight assists. For her performances over the weekend, she was named to the Buffs Invitational all-tournament team.
•Latahevai Lousi moved into 15th all-time in kills at San José State Saturday with nine kills in the match. She ends the week with 992 career kills, passing Paola Paz-Soldan who had 991 from 1994-95. Lousi needs eight kills to become the 15th player in school history to achieve the feat.
Match Summary
Set 1 – The Spartans fell behind 10-3, forcing a timeout, and used a 7-1 run to close the set to 11-10 on a Nelson kill. The team was not able to tie the match and fell 25-17.
Set 2 – Nelson recorded the first point of the set on her fifth kill of the day, and Harper extended the lead to 2-0 for the team's biggest lead of the day. Down 23-16, the Spartans got three consecutive kills from Nelson to cut the lead to 23-19, but lost the set 25-19.
Set 3 – Again, SJSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Nelson kill, but that was the only lead of the set for the Spartans as they lost 25-19.
San José State returns home for four matches over the next two weeks, beginning with San Francisco on Thursday, September 16, at 6 p.m., inside Spartan Gym.
