SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose State women's soccer is ready to turn the page this weekend as they get set to open Mountain West play with a pair of matches against Colorado-based squads. The Spartans begin their weekend with a visit to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs to take on Air Force in a 5:00 p.m. PT kick that serves as the conference opener for both teams. SJSU will then return to the comfort of their home pitch for a Sunday Afternoon match against Colorado College that is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m. PT.

First Touches

  • The Air Force Academy Falcons check into the weekend with a 3-3-1 mark overall. The Falcons are 2-1 in their last three outings with a pair of shutout road victories over Navy and Army before losing 1-0 to South Dakota State in their nonconference finale.
  • Air Force is led by Larry Friend in his 13th season at the helm. Goalkeeper Cammi Bych is currently tied for the Mountain West lead with three shutouts.
  • The Spartans own the overall record against Air Force with an 8-1-1 advantage. SJSU has won the last six matches dating back to 2013 when the teams tied, 0-0. The only loss for the Spartans came in the teams' first-ever meeting on Sept. 20, 1996.
  • Colorado College is 1-6-0 on the season and coming off their first victory, a 1-0 shutout against Southern Utah.
  • The Tigers are led by Geoff Bennett in his 17th season as the head coach. Sophomore forward Lily Byrne leads the team with four points on two goals.
  • SJSU leads the overall record over the Tigers 5-1 with the lone loss coming in the most recent installment, a 1-0 affair on Sept. 27, 2019.
  • The Spartans put a bow on their nonconference slate with a 2-0 final against Pacific. SJSU finished with a 3-5-0 mark in nonconference play.
