Spartans Impress On All Fronts In 2-0 Win Over Colorado College

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Behind big goals from Cynthia Flores and Isabella Shallou-Enes, San Jose State women's soccer took care of business in front of the home crowd on Saturday, defeating Colorado College, 2-0, to pick up their first conference win of the season. The Spartans looked impressive on all fronts with the offense having a great showing with 14 shots and six corners while the defense locked things up to record their second shutout of the year.

  • It was Flores that opened things up for the Spartans towards the end of the first half. After putting up a well-struck shot on goal that was just barely punched up and over by the Colorado College keeper, Flores got another crack at it on the SJSU corner kick. Taylor Phillips delivered a perfect ball to the corner, and Flores headed it home for her first goal of the season and second of her career.
  • Flores finished the game with a team-high four shots, two on-goal, in 31 minutes off the bench.
  • Phillips was awarded an assist on Flores' goal for her team-leading sixth point of the year.
  • Shallou-Enes saw multiple good looks on the day and was able to take full advantage of her best one in the 52nd minute as she and Evan House streaked to the goal from the midfield. House played a perfect pass to Shallou-Enes, who fired off an easy shot past the keeper to the right hand corner. The goal was the first of her career.
  • The Spartan Defense put on an equally impressive performance as the back line allowed just three shots on-goal.
  • Goalkeeper Autum Monty had a stellar game in the net with three saves, including a critical diving stop in the 44th minute to preserve the 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
  • The Spartans held the advantage in shots (14-10), shots on-goal (4-3) and corners (6-3).

San Jose State will look to keep the momentum rolling next weekend when they host a pair of double-headers with the Spartan men's team beginning Friday against Wyoming.
