Women's Golf Heads to Monterey Peninsula for The Molly Collegiate Invitational

The San José State women's golf team travels down to the Monterey Peninsula for the Molly Collegiate Invitational hosted at Bayonet & Black Horse in Seaside, Calif.
 
The team will play 36 holes Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. The Spartans begin the first round with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m., and play 36 continuous holes on Monday.

•The 14-team field features five Mountain West schools (Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico, UNLV, SJSU) and four Pac-12 schools (Cal, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA).
 
•The Spartans are coming off a second-place finish at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational two weeks ago in Albuquerque. The team finished at even-par 864, and shot the second-best round in school history with an 11-under 277 in the second round.
 
•Antonia Malate finished fourth two weeks ago at 6-under 210. Three others finished in the top-21 – Kajsa Arwefjäll T13th at 217, Lucia Lopez Ortega T16th at 218 and Natasha Andrea Oon T21st at 219.
 
•Malate is very familiar with Bayonet & Black Horse. Playing her home course, this past July, she won the West Coast Women's Amateur Championship, shooting a six-under 210, to win by eight strokes.
 
•This tournament is one of two locally that Spartans fans can come see the team in action. San José State will also play at the Stanford Intercollegiate from October 15-17.
